Since gyms have closed due to the pandemic, at-home workouts have become increasingly popular, and alongside them, fitness apps. Through a lot of 2020, I spent time exercising daily, trying out different fitness apps and seeing which one was the best value and had the best content. And there was a clear winner. Fiit.
I can safely say that FiiT has transformed exercising and fitness for me. It offers variety, motivation, and most importantly simplifies my whole exercise routine. Instead of figuring out what to do and motivating myself to keep going, I just put on a FiiT workout, follow the trainer’s instructions and lose myself in the music.
How does it work?
First you create your profile which asks for the usual info as well as your fitness goals (lose weight, get stronger, improve flexibility, general fitness) and fitness level (beginner, intermediate or advanced). This data helps the app tailor workout recommendations to you.
All the classes fall into one of three studios; strength, cardio and rebalance. Strength and cardio are self-explanatory and are mostly bodyweight, meaning there’s no need for equipment. If you do own dumbbells, kettlebells or resistance bands, then some classes use these but if not, there are plenty of other workouts to choose from.
Rebalance classes include yoga, Pilates, mobility, stretching, breathing work, and barre (which are low impact workouts that burn like hell – in a good way). These classes are perfect in the morning, on a rest day, or for an extended cool down after an intense cardio or strength class.
Something for everyone
The number one excuse for not working out is not having enough time. Well, FiiT tailors to all and has classes starting from 10 minutes up to 60 minutes meaning there’s no excuse!
For those who don’t like planning or have a specific goal in mind, there are fully structured workout programmes including ones for mind and body to destress with mindfulness while improving range of motion and flexibility.
For the competitive types, you can also join a scheduled group task and if you sync your smartwatch or grab a FiiT tracker you can compete, live, with other people training hard in their homes as well. This is an awesome part of the community aspect of FiiT. Not only can you follow your friends and compare stats, but you can train with them even if you’re apart.
What’s in each class?
Each session starts with a warm-up, followed by the main class, which could take many forms including EMOM (every minute on the minute), pyramid, technical phase + challenge phase, circuits and more. Don’t worry there are rest periods as well! When all that madness is over, there’s a really nice cool down to end each session.
The best bit is that the trainer is working along with you, giving tips on form, and generally being motivating. As if this weren’t enough, there’s excellent music during each section to keep you going; upbeat music during the main class and quite relaxing music at the end when you’re bringing your heart rate back down and having a stretch.
I also love that FiiT classes focus on bodyweight exercises, combining strength and cardio. This means I hit multiple muscle groups, and work up a sweat even when strength training, unlike when doing isolation exercises in the gym. Thanks to this approach, I can say that I’m in the best shape of my life!
As you can see, FiiT has it all and is perfect for the current situation where we all have to work out at home. Saying that, even when gyms open up, I don’t think I’ll be going back. For less than half the price of a gym membership, I get 600+ classes right in my pocket which have helped me see real improvements in my fitness. Gyms have their place, especially for those training for something specific or for people who mainly want to lift. But if you’re interested in maintaining good health at a low cost and without the faff, FiiT is the solution.
